The rear shocks were completely stuffed. So I bought a set of Bilsteins and set about replacing the rears. As it is easier to do this job with the rear end out of the car this is what I proceeded to do. As with most rebuilds I stared to clean up the rear while it was out and before I knew it I had dismantled the rear end and the cage and a few other bits were off for sandblasting and powdercoating.
Rear end on its way out of the car. Doing this with the trolley jack was a real PITA I needed a better way.
Rear end out and ready for a makeover. This was the point of no return I decided to if I am going to do this it will be done properly.
New Bilsteins being installed on the springs using my homemade spring compressor.
Finally compete, Diff completely rebuilt new everything and a set of 3.58 gears installed while it was out. All bearings seals and Unis replaced.
Back in the car. That is the speedo drive you can see hanging.
awesome job there on the xjs rear bravo
ReplyDeleteLovely Job, I would love to take on a similar job myself and I would have sooooo many questions to ask about the details. How did you choose your shocks? luxury or racing priority?
ReplyDeleteHi James,
ReplyDeleteI used TWR spec Bilstein shocks all round. From the research I did TWR bilstein had different valving than the JaguarSport Bilstein.
The racing guys also use GAZ which are adjustable. Either of these will provide improved handling and a sportier ride. If you want to keep the Jaguar softer ride then go with the standard Boge shocks.
I would be more than happy to answer any questions.
Bravo!!
