This is my Jaguar XJS V12. This photo was taken on the Great Ocean Road during our trip from Perth to Sydney. She covered about 6000km in total. Who said V12 Jags were unreliable.
2016 Update - I now live near the Great Ocean Road so get to drive the XJS along it when ever the fancy takes, although there are far better driving roads just a few km inland that are not crowded by tourists driving on the wrong side of the road.
Warren,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your website, a lot of good ideas and fine craftmanship. I have an 88 I am restoring/modifying. fantastic car and a great therapy.

Hi Hector, yes you are right the XJS V12 is a wonderful car. So many people bag the V12 but this is one of the smoothest power plants built with effortless torque on tap from idle. Good luck with your resto and if you need anyone to bounce questions off I am more than happy to help. I am almost at the end now so I have made many mistakes (learning experiences)
ReplyDeleteOk I thought I would add some info here as I have many questions on getting more power from the V12.
ReplyDeleteFirst is to make sure your car is running properly, no point in modifying anything if the car is not up to snuff. New plugs (All of them as the front 4 mostly never get changed because of the lack of access) New high quality leads, mine are Top Gun 8mm. If it’s pre-Marelli get the advance mechanism working.
Now everything is working as it should. Getting power is reasonably easy (up to a point). I think 350hp from a 5.3L requires intake and exhaust modifications.
Add cold air intakes 2” is big enough and the cold air can be ducted from over the radiator or if you don’t mind using a holesaw on your car behind the headlight. Cut the silly small intake tube off the airbox and install the 2” pipe. JB weld can be used to hold it place. You will need to make sure you position the pipe inside the housing so it does not interfere with the air filter element. Then add the cold air ducts.
Exhaust requires replacing the down pipes. Individual 1.75” from the manifold 26” long merging into 2.5”. I have relocated my Catalytic converters to behind the gearbox to facilitate this mod. I have installed a 2.5” system including high flow cats.
You can go further with the intake but this requires machining the throttlebody with a taper to the butterfly and radius on the leading edge. I am planning on doing a lot of mods to my spare 6.0L V12 and will document as I go with a baseline Dyno run.
Wow. Amazing blog and great work. Loved to read and look at the pics, keep it up!
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteThe way you explain this blog is really very nice and outstanding. The Jaguar Collection is a special range of high quality merchandise which represents a unique opportunity to add a little extra Jaguar Exciting news for Jaguar fans this week, as Britain's Auto Express Jaguar Magazine revealed that the company is planning to reinvent the legendary. Thanks..
Hi Warren
ReplyDeleteJust wondering if you are still blogging seeing your last date here is 2013

I moved from Sydney to country Victoria, so I've had nothing to blog. I will be adding a couple of new pages as I replace the TH400 with a 4L60e and rebuild the 6.0L V12 increasing its capacity to 6.7L.
ReplyDeleteHello Warren , thanks for your blog it s a very good resource and thank you for the time you dedicated to pass on all that knowledge. I'm having a hard time bleeding the brake system on my xjs 1989. the car brakes and pedal is hard burt i keep having the light (brake and lock) turn on when i start braking. At the beginning i thought may be thats the abs sensor, but even with the car in parking it makes this. I'm pretty sure its about bleeding, but i cant figure it. So i start looking at your topic, but unfortunately the pictures are not available anymore. Me being french, my english is so-so , meaning pictures talks a lot better sometimes. Could you consider either sending me the pictures? or re post them? That would be awsome. i get back on the thread and will go to the shop to try apply your method. thank you for any response.
ReplyDeleteOh and basically i rebuilt all calipers and i let the hoses open so i guess its what put air in the system.
thank you so much and have a good weekend
